MY PHILOSOPHY

FULL RECOVERY

I support individuals to move from 'in recovery' to fully recovered.

Unconditional freedom is possible.

REALISTIC AND RESPECTFUL

Adults with eating disorders face very different realities and challenges to those encountered by children.
A prescriptive approach to recovery is not realistic. It is about meeting a person where they are at in life.

RESOURCEFUL

I recognise that individuals rarely have “perfect” resources or conditions available to them in recovery. I will work with them to identify and utilize what the individual has available in terms of professional, family, and community support and work with what we have.

FULL NUTRITIONAL REHABILITATION

My primary focus is the elimination of restriction, eating disorder behaviours, and the subsequent weight restoration.

NEURAL REWIRING AND NEUROGENESIS

The “neuroplastic” quality of the human brain means that, once identified, challenged and worked through, it’s possible to fully change unhelpful neural pathways, patterns and beliefs – be they conscious or unconscious.

UNCONDITIONAL PERMISSION TO EAT UNRESTRICTED

Every individual can and should honour their hunger fully, during recovery AND for life.

UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE OF SIZE DIVERSITY

I recognise and celebrate that different bodies work optimally at different
sizes, shapes and weights. I will encourage and support you to find
what’s right for yours.

STATE NOT WEIGHT

Optimal mental health is the key marker of full recovery – not numbers. I

recognise that weight restoration is integral to, but not the end of, the

healing process.

Recovery is based on feeling better. Not 'looking' better.

BIOLOGICAL APPROACH

I focus on the biology of how energy deficit leads into the activation of an eating disorder, and how malnutrition leads your body and brain to acting and thinking in the way that we associate with eating disorder behaviours.

DYNAMIC AND SUSTAINABLE APPROACH

Often different approaches work for different sufferers, and at different
stages in their recovery. I adjust my approach to what I believe would work best for the individual to progress.
In addition to this, and to ensure robust, enduring recovery, I will support individuals to develop healthier coping mechanisms for periods of stress and emotional unrest.

NO SUFFERER IS A BURDEN

The fact somebody is struggling doesn't make them unlovable, weak, sensitive, too needy.

During periods of intense mental and physical stress, the body and mind need support, not blaming or shaming.

The areas we feel most 'needy' are simply the areas we have unmet needs.

JOYFUL MOVEMENT

I consider truly intuitive movement to be life-enhancing. But, strongly resist the notion that it should be used as a punishing, compensatory or weight-suppressing activity.

WORK WITH ME

I understand how frightening it can be to admit that you have a disordered relationship with food. However, in exploring and seeking support you are taking the first step towards freedom.

I hope to offer you the belief that, whilst it may not be quick, the recovery journey will not be endless; that you CAN find true peace with food, exercise and your body.

Working together, I will support you towards and hold you accountable for unrestricted eating and allowing your body to nutritionally rehabilitate in order to achieve full physical recovery. I will also help you to identify which neural pathways need rewiring and will help you develop tools to do this.

Together, we will devise and implement an action plan that will enable you to move from a life of restriction, to one without limitations.
